How to differentiate your Marketing and Advertising strategies

Marketing is the process of finding (demanding) and meeting the needs of our customers, based on the platforms we have.

Along with the development of Digital Marketing, Marketing is being abused heavily in advertising classes – Advertising:

  • Teach Facebook Advertising – Facebook Marketing.
  • Teach how to use tool on social networks – Social Marketing.

This makes a lot of people think that, by default, the Digital Marketer must be a super-human-themed, knowledgeable about using all kinds of advertising tools and recruiters are offered employment with relatively low salaries.

As a result, anyone can see that big companies cannot looking for people to do Digital Marketing, just see the ADVERTISER recruiting and think that they have been doing Marketing.

So, how to distinguish between Marketing and Advertising?

  1. About the definition:

–  Marketing: Marketing is the process of finding (identifying) needs and satisfying customer needs, based on the platforms (products, services, systems, ..) that we have.

Some other definitions:

  • Marketing is a good product (in my opinion, the right product) that is sold in the right place for the right people to buy at a reasonable price – according to Adcoketal.
  • Marketing is customer-oriented activities to satisfy their needs and desires through interactive exchanges – according to Kotler 1980.
  • Marketing is a task in the organization, a set of processes designed to create, communicate and communicate values to customers, and to manage customer relationships in a variety of ways to benefit the organization and its shareholders. (American Marketing Association 2008).
    Marketing is the identification of what the society needs. If a product is created that no one needs and buys, it will not sell, so it will not profit (Wiki).

–  Advertising: Advertising is a form of paid advertising or not to introduce information about products, services, companies or ideas, advertising is a non-direct communication between people with who want to communicate pay for the mass media to bring information to persuade or influence the recipient of the information.

Advertising is an attempt to influence the behavior or habits of consumers or consumers by providing sales messages in a convincing manner to the seller’s product or service.

  1. About activities:

Marketing is a process of research, analysis, planning, strategy, budgeting, measurement, statistics, optimization … across a variety of channels and methods, to ensure that the budge they pay are profitable for the organization.

Advertising: do the activities of a marketing plan, influencing the customer’s habits and turning them into buyers.

 

  1. To make it clearer, we can imagine this:

Marketing is a big pie, in which there are many pieces, each pie represents one area: product research, market research, media planning, public relations, advertising, sales strategies. Products, customer after sales, community relations …

– And Advertising is a piece of cake in the cake. However, it does not work independently, but must interact with the rest of the pie to create the best effect for the overall marketing campaign.

Thus, the advertiser when building and launching a campaign very need to talk with Marketing Manager. Otherwise, the campaign will be difficult to achieve the highest efficiency. And this is also a disease that many Vietnamese businesses are suffering!
